WHY BECOME A MEMBER?

Producers

South Africa’s Extended Producer Responsibility regulations have fundamentally changed how regulated products must be managed at end of life. For Producers, importers and entities placing products on the market, compliance is a legal obligation requiring registration with DFFE, participation in an approved Producer Responsibility Organisation, accurate reporting and payment of prescribed EPR fees.

Circular Energy provides the structured governance, regulatory oversight and operational network required to meet these obligations with confidence and integrity.

General membership

Beyond compliance, Circular Energy offers a collaborative platform for organisations committed to advancing the circular economy. Whether as a legally obligated Producer Member or a General Member seeking to participate in responsible industry development, joining Circular Energy means contributing to measurable environmental impact, supporting job creation and strengthening South Africa’s national take back and recycling systems.

Registration with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment

Before registering with Circular Energy as a Producer Member, entities that place regulated products on the South African market must first register with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment in terms of the Extended Producer Responsibility regulations. This registration confirms your legal status as a Producer and enables the issuing of a formal registration number.

Producers are also required to calculate and pay prescribed EPR fees based on the volume and category of products placed on the market. Once registered and compliant with these statutory requirements, you may apply for Producer EPR Membership with Circular Energy to manage your ongoing compliance obligations.
